GLS Trail Map

Grand Lake Stream ATV Trails

An offline map of the ATV trails around Grand Lake Stream, showing where you are. It keeps working with no cell service — but only if you save it first.

Open the map

Save it while you have an internet connection, before you leave

Signal can be spotty or nonexistent on the trails. The map has to be on your phone before you lose connection, and that should take less than a minute.

  1. Open the map while you still have a connection.
  2. Tap Save the map. It downloads 6.6 MB and shows you its progress.
  3. Wait for Ready for offline use. If it does not say that, it is not saved.
  4. When it offers, add it to your Home Screen. It then opens like an app, and your phone stops clearing the saved map after a week.

Opening the map before you go does one more thing worth having: it warms up your phone's GPS data, so the first fix out on the trail takes seconds instead of minutes.

Whose land this is

The trails are maintained by the Grand Lake Stream ATV Club across land held by Wagner Forest Management, Woodland Pulp, Lyme Timber and the Downeast Lakes Land Trust. Mostly working timberland, and riding it is a privilege the club negotiates with the landowners rather than a right of way.

Where the mapped trails come from

Every line started as a GPS trace recorded while riding it, then drawn by hand afterwards against the club's own trail map, USGS topographic maps and aerial imagery, and OpenStreetMap. About 68.3 miles are mapped so far.
